VIRASAT 2012 – A CLASSICAL PROGRAMME

Monday saw splendid performance by Sitar Player Shubendra Rao in Dayawati Modi Academy under the banner of SPIC MACAY society which promotes the Indian Classical Music amongst youth.
Disciple of renowned Sitarist Pt Ravi Shankar, Shubendra Rao was here in DMA at the function of ‘VIRASAT 2012’.
The hall echoed with raga ‘Adhir Lalit’ played by Sitarist who was accompanied on Tabla by Pt Krishna Kishor Mishra many students showed their & soaked in the aura of classical music.

The Principal of DMA Dr. Ranjan Roy along with Chair Person (U.P.) of SPIC MACAY S.P.Singh & others inaugurated programmed by lighting a lamp. Dr.Roy appreciated the step of SPIC MACAYto spread the awareness of Classical Music.

S.P.Singh, Chair Person of SPIC MACAY interacted with student & made them aware of the music. In his words-“Indian Classical music is not for entertainment but for inner happiness”. He said that music gives us contentment & increase our concentration.

It was a success to see youth taking interest in Classical Music who now a days are often driven by western songs.

Nov 27, 2012, Tuesday marked a thrilling encounter with Manipuri Cultural Heritage in the campus of Dayawati Modi Academy, Varanasi. Under the aegis of Spic Macay, the Folk artists from Manipur captivated all the eyes. The premise of the Academy was soaked in the aura of Manipur’s Classical Dance & Martial Art.
The Dances – Pung- Cholom (with Mridang), Chei-Gi Jagoi (Stick Dance), Thabi Kabka (Cucumber cutting), Dhol-Cholom & Thang Ahum Yannaba (Triple fights one versus two men) were choreographed by Chingtham Ranjeet and performed by a team of seven artists (L. Sanamacha Singh, L. Jayenta Singh, Akoijam Ratan Singh, L. Umakanta, N. Rakesh Singh, Y. Chandra Singh & M. Herojit Singh) got admiration from all the viewers. Stick Dance & Triple Fight got huge acclaim by the mesmerized gathering.

Principal Dr. Ranjan Roy along with Mr. Umesh Seth, Co-ordinator, Spic Macay, Varanasi Chapter inaugurated the Programme by Lighting the Lamp. Mr Seth praised the devotion and discipline of the DMAites and wished to continue with such events in future also.

To call it a day the Principal Dr. Ranjan Roy honored the Manipuri Team by presenting ‘Angwastram’ as a small token of love and extended his vote of thanks to Spic Macay for spreading the Cultural awareness among the young minds.
